Taylor Swift has a talent for writing about the highs and lows of being in love, and considering her past relationships with Joe Jonas, John Mayer, Harry Styles, Tom Hiddleston, and Calvin Harris, she has no lack of material to draw on.
The musician has previously acknowledged that her prior lovers have provided her with a wide variety of feedback on her music. Swift claimed that she had a conversation with her ex-lover about the breakup track as she was discussing the song “All Too Well,” which was released in 2012 and is based on her brief affair with Jake Gyllenhaal. The song is about their split.
“I just listened to the album, and that was a really bittersweet experience for me,” he said at one point. It was quite similar to looking through a picture book. In 2013, she reminisced on the experience to New York Magazine and said, “That was nice.” “Much more pleasant than, say, the shouting and wild e-mails that I received from this one guy.
It is a much more adult way of looking at a relationship that was beautiful until it became horrible, and both individuals felt harmed by it; however, one of those persons happened to be a composer. This is a much more mature way of looking at a love that was wonderful until it became dreadful. So, what are your plans moving forward? Did you not look me up on Wikipedia before you decided to ask me out on a date?
The native of Pennsylvania said that her writing technique consists of “usually me just trying to get past something and understand something I’m going through by writing about it.” The Reputation concert special was released on Netflix in 2018. Swift also used this opportunity to reflect on how her relationship with the song “All Too Well” has evolved in the years since its first release.
“There’s the life of this song, where this song was born out of catharsis and venting and trying to get over something as well as trying to understand it and process it,” the artist said. Then there’s the life where it was out into the world, and you changed it into something entirely new for me,’ she told her supporters at the time.
“You turned this song into a collage of memories of watching you scream the words to this song or seeing pictures that you post to me of you having written the words of the song in your diary or you showing me your wrist and you have a tattoo of the lyrics to this song underneath your skin and that is how you changed the song ‘All Too Well’ [for] me and that is how you changed the song ‘All Too Well’ [for] me.”
However, not all of her tunes are anthems for moving on after a relationship. Following the start of her romantic relationship with Joe Alwyn in 2017, the singer discovered that she had a musical connection with the actor.
“Joe and I both really like listening to melancholy tunes. Music has always served as a unifying force for us… We are the most depressing writers. Simply said, we can’t get enough of melancholy tunes. What can I say?” The conversation took place on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music broadcast in December 2020, after the two artists had worked together on Swift’s Folklore album.
“And I say it was a surprise that we started writing together, but in a way, it wasn’t because we have always bonded over music and had the same musical tastes,” she said. “But it was a surprise that we started writing together.” And he is the one who constantly introduces me to new music by other artists, many of which end up being some of my favourites.
