In 1900, James Weldon Johnson composed the poem Lift Every Voice and Sing Lyrics. He was a leader of NAACP. This text is commonly known as “The Black National Anthem.” John Rosamond Johnson (1873-1954) composed the lyrics’ melody. He is James Weldon Johnson’s brother. This hymn is performed publicly for the first time in Jacksonville, Florida, to honour the birthday of President Abraham Lincoln at Stantion School, where James Weldon Johnson was the principal.
